Showtime Networks, Inc. Premiers Original Documentary by Cable Positive: Positive Voices: Women & HIV November 30, 2007

NEW YORK - November 27, 2007

Issues like stigma, fear and mis-education plague the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS around the globe.  Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications AIDS action organization, and Showtime Networks, Inc. recognize these issues as barriers to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic and have formed a partnership with the aim of breaking some of these walls down. On November 30, 2007 at 9 PM EST, Showtime Networks, Inc. will premier the third installment of Cable Positive’s award-winning documentary series Positive Voices, titled Women & HIV to the largest audience any Cable Positive original programming has ever had.

“Education is key to preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and we at Showtime applaud Cable Positive for their valiant efforts and are pleased to be able to air this important documentary,” said Matt Blank, Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc.

The new documentary - Cable Positive’s first full length piece – was produced in partnership with Kismet Films and focuses on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States and how it has impacted women directly, the media’s portrayal of people living with HIV/AIDS and the new challenges facing women today as the rate of HIV infections rise in their communities.  The program is hosted by Gloria Reuben, the former ER star who portrayed a health care professional infected with HIV, who is now starring opposite Queen Latifa in the movie Life Support. The piece features six women infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and focuses on the various ways it has affected their lives.  Among the women featured is Regan Hofmann, Editor-in-Chief, Poz Magazine.

Positive Voices: Women and HIV sheds light on the harsh reality of women accounting for one of every three new HIV infections,” Said Steve Villano, President & CEO of Cable Positive. “Our objective with this documentary is to empower women with information about the disease and reduce the stigma that surrounds it, preventing HIV positive women from getting the treatment they need.”
