Cable Positive Honoring Playboy CEO Christie Hefner at The 2007 POP Awards
NEW YORK - May 7, 2007
For the past five years, Cable Positive has recognized exemplary HIV/AIDS programming at the Positively Outstanding Programming (POP) Awards. This year’s event, at the IFC Center in New York City, on June 12, will make history by honoring an individual as well, with The HIV/AIDS Educational Advocate Award, presented by TelevisionWeek, for the significant strides in HIV/AIDS education.
Cable Positive has teamed up with TelevisionWeek to honor Christie Hefner with the HIV/AIDS Educational Advocate of the Year Award. The formal announcement will be made at this year’s 2007 Cable Show in Las Vegas at the Cable Positive Booth #5276 following the general session at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8th. Cable Positive’s President and CEO, Steve Villano, TelevisionWeek Publisher, Chuck Ross and Christie Hefner will all be on hand to celebrate the announcement.
Throughout her entire professional career Christie has used her drive and influences to not only lead her firm, Playboy Enterprises, Inc., to be a media industry leader, she has become a community leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Under Christie’s guidance Playboy became one of the first companies to fund HIV/AIDS research. In 1983, the Playboy Foundation awarded its first HIV/AIDS grant to the New York University Medical Center for research. She has worked with local organizations like the Howard Brown Medical Center and Chicago’s CORE Center where she personally directed an initiative that raised $30 million to build an outpatient treatment center for families affected and infected with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
