On the morning of March 11th, members of Cable Positive Atlanta volunteered at Jerusalem House by grooming the playgrounds and other outside landscaping, discarding old furniture and delivering donated goods that included household appliances, cleaning supplies and family-size toiletries. A haven for homeless families (mostly single mothers with children) where either a parent or child has HIV/AIDS, Jerusalem House provides over 50 percent of Atlanta, Georgia's permanent housing designated for homeless people living with either disease.

Cable Positive’s Atlanta Chapter raised more than $16,000 in its fourth-annual “Positively Art” fundraiser November 10, 2007. Established and emerging artists contributed over 100 pieces of art, including eight original works donated from the “Discarded Art” collection of Rainbow Media Holdings CEO Josh Sapan. Sold primarily via silent auction, the pieces generated heated bidding throughout the evening’s event, held at the BigHouse Studio loft in downtown Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill arts district. The proceeds benefit the programs of Cable Positive and AID Atlanta, the Southeast’s largest AIDS services organization.

Piedmont Park was the site of this year’s AIDS Walk Atlanta 2007 which took place on Sunday, October 21. Cable Positive’s Atlanta Chapter donated $8,215 to Positive Impact, an Atlanta agency that provides critical mental health and prevention services to those whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS. The donation represented a portion of the proceeds from the Chapter’s 4th annual Gutterball bowling fundraiser April 25, at which more than 200 people from Atlanta-area cable companies spent an evening bowling for a great cause.

3rd Annual Positively Art | photos
Cable Positive’s Atlanta Chapter raised more than $30,000 in
its third-annual Positively Art fundraiser Nov. 2. Pictured at the event
are Atlanta volunteers along with Cable Positive staff and the event’s
honorary chair, acrobat and gymnast Matthew Cusick. In 2002, Cusick’s
contract with Cirque du Soleil was terminated because he is HIV-postive.
Cusick filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC). The agency found evidence of discrimination and Cirque
paid the largest settlement in history for an HIV-discrimination complaint
settled with the EEOC. The story of Cusick’s courageous fight
is featured in the first of a series of “Positive Voices” mini-documentaries
produced by Cable Positive. At Positively Art, he spoke about the realities
facing those with HIV and AIDS and also injected performance art into
the event with a hand-balancing demonstration with performance partner
Ken Berkeley.
The event featured more than 100 pieces from about 35 established and
emerging artists, including several cable artists. All proceeds will
benefit the programs of Cable Positive, AID Atlanta and African Children’s
Art Project. Event sponsors were WE tv, Commscope, Motorola, C-Cor,
Juniper Networks, Communication Trends, and Hall’s of Fine Wines.

Screen on the Green
The Atlanta Chapter of Cable Positive hosted an event in conjunction
with a “Screen on the Green” showing of “Breakfast
at Tiffany’s” in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park. Proceeds
benefited Cable Positive and AID Atlanta, the Southeast’s
largest AIDS services organization. The June 22 event drew employees
from Turner, Comcast, Cox, HBO, Scripps and other companies, who came
out to show their support and enjoy a great chance to interact with
others in the industry. Sponsored by Turner Classic Movies and Comcast,
the event was held at Magnolia Hall, a beautiful venue that was gussied
up in a décor befitting the evening’s featured movie. Following
a “classy barbeque dinner,” guests walked the short distance
to the park’s lawn, where they joined thousands of people gathered
to watch the Audrey Hepburn classic.
