On November 18, the Southern California Cable and Telecommunication
Association (SCCTA) held its Annual Dinner. A special live auction was
held, led by CableFAX Daily columnist and industry stalwart Paul Maxwell
and Cable Positive Southern California Chapter co-chair Bob Gold , Bob
Gold& Associates, to benefit Cable Positive and SCCTA. With fierce
bidding, the auction raised $5,150 which was split between the two organizations.
In addition, Cable Positive Southern California co-chair Craig Watson,
Charter, shrewdly negotiated a cost reduction in the dinner venue supplementing
the money raised for Cable Positive by $3,000. Cable Positive's Steve
Villano attended the event, stating "this is a perfect example
of how working collaboratively in the fight against HIV and AIDS can
make a huge impact." Through this partnership and donation, SCCTA
has become a 2005 charter member of the Southern California Chapter.
Santo Coyote, Los Angeles, CA
February 7, 2003
Playboy Playmates spread a little love for Cable Positive this
Valentine’s Day as they signed autographs and took photos
with attendees at a pre-Valentine’s Day bash to benefit
the organization’s fight against AIDS. The Southern California Chapter,
headed by Fox Cable Networks’ David Nathanson produced the
event that was held on February 7 at “Santo Coyote”
on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Fox Cable Networks and Playboy
Entertainment sponsored the event.
Attendees
were able to have their photos taken with bunny costumed Playboy
Playmates and Playboy TV celebrities. A silent auction was held
during the event to raise funds for Cable Positive. Featured items
include: an invitation for two to the Playmate of the Year announcement
luncheon at the Playboy Mansion this spring, an Invitation for

Moomba, Los Angeles, CA
June 27, 2002
Former Playboy Playmate Rebekka Armstrong hosted Cable Positive’s
Southern California Chapter National HIV Testing Day fundraising event
at “Moomba” in West Hollywood, CA on June 27. The
evening was a hit as comedians Maria Bramford and Kivi Rogers
kept the crowd laughing while Big Bad Voodoo Daddy rocked the
house. Rebekka Armstrong, the evening’s host, gave a powerful
testimony of her HIV status and how she never thought it could
happen to her brought many of the guests to tears.
More
than 200 cable industry professionals supported the event sponsored
by ABC Cable Networks, AT&T Broadband, and FOX Cable Networks.
Produced by Cable Positive's Los Angleles volunteer chapter headed
by FOX Cable Networks' David Nathanson, the event raised more
than $25,000 for Cable Positive's programs and services. AIDS
Project Los Angeles, one of the nation's largest AIDS service
organizations and recent Cable Positive community outreach grantee,
stationed volunteers at the door to provide attendees with important
information on HIV/AIDS including HIV testing sites in the area
and condoms. Cable Positive also hosted guests from
LA Shanti, who received a grant from Cable Positive for their
youth prevention programs this spring.
