Cable Positive's Annual Benefit A Record Success
NEW YORK, NY — March 8, 2007
Nearly 900 leaders from the cable industry and their supporters gathered to honor Glenn Britt and Time Warner Cable with the cable industry’s highest honor in HIV/AIDS awareness, The Joel A. Berger Memorial Award. On Tuesday night, March 6, 2007 at the Marriott Marquis, Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunication industry’s AIDS action organization, presented the prestigious award at their annual benefit dinner, hosted by legendary journalist and HDNet Global Correspondent, Dan Rather, titled Positively Time….
Britt acknowledged his recognition as a “great honor,” and called upon three other Time Warner Cable executives and Cable Positive chapter representatives from across the country to accept the award with him, focusing attention on Time Warner Cable’s record in fighting HIV/AIDS at the community level. Those local leaders were Paul Braun, VP of Programming, Deane Leavenworth, VP of Time Warner Communications, and Harriet Novet, on behalf of Suzanne Giuliani, VP of Public Affairs NY/NJ region.
The event succeeded in achieving its goal of raising funds - a new record high - for use in the fight against HIV/AIDS. With a total of over 1.5 million dollars raised, including a personal $50,000 donation by Mr. Mark Cuban, founder of HDNet and owner of NBA team the Dallas Mavericks, Cable Positive broke new ground at this event. “This was the most successful dinner in terms of funds raised, and in terms of outside industry support,” said Cable Positive President and CEO Steve Villano. Non-cable firms, such as hardware vendors, law firms and financial institutions donated more money than any previous year, setting their own record for donations received from more diverse sources.
Cable Positive’s benefit dinner has raised more than 1 million dollars for 9 consecutive years, and over the 15 year lifetime of the organization, the cable industry has donated 18 million dollars and more than 1 billion dollars worth of air time in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
