A team of high-powered cable industry leaders have joined forces with Cable
Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s AIDS action
organization, to honor Cox Communications and its President and CEO James
O. Robbins with the organization’s highest honor, the Joel A.
Berger Memorial Award, for outstanding contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Bill Bresnan, Chairman and CEO, Bresnan Communications; Nicole
Browning, President, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, MTV Networks; Andy
Heller, President of Domestic Distribution, Turner Broadcasting
System; Tony Vinciquerra, President and CEO, Fox
Networks Group and David Zaslav, President, NBC Universal
Cable will serve as event chairs for a fundraising dinner held in
Robbins’ honor on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. The event Positively
Community: An Evening to Benefit Cable Positive will be held
at The Marriott Marquis in New York City.
“This is a true measure of the respect and admiration that the
cable industry holds for Jim Robbins and his leadership at Cox Communications,” said
Cable Positive President and CEO Steve Villano. “It also
underscores the profound commitment and community-based contributions
made by the entire team at Cox Communications in the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
Robbins and Cox Communications are the first multiple system operator
to be honored by Cable Positive since James Dolan, President and CEO,
Cablevision, Chairman, MSG was recognized for his invaluable work in
the fight against HIV/AIDS five years ago. This also marks
the first time in the organization’s 14-year history that five
top industry leaders have come together to head Cable Positive’s
Annual Benefit Dinner to support an honoree.
Robbins will join a list of distinguished cable and telecommunications
leaders who have received the Joel A. Berger Memorial Award. That
list of honorees include: Carole Black (2005); Matt Blank (2004); Robert
L. Johnson and Debra Lee (2003), Bill McGorry (2002), James L. Dolan
(2001), Marc B. Nathanson (2000), Anne Sweeney (1999), Leo Hindery,
Jr. (1998), Dick Aurelio (1997), Winston H. “Tony’ Cox (1996 – posthumously)
and Jeffrey Bewkes and Michael Fuchs (1995). The award is named
for Joel A. Berger, a Cable Positive Honorary Chair and the group publisher
of Multichannel News, who died of complications due to AIDS in April
1995.
