Inaugural POP Awards To Honor Exceptional HIV/AIDS-Related Cable Programming

Television Viewers to Pick "POP Celebrity of the Year"
Cable Industry Members to Select "POP Network of the Year"

CABLE POSITIVE'S FIRST ANNUAL POP AWARDS PRESENTED BY TV GUIDE

NEW YORK, NY -January 22, 2002
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry's national non-profit AIDS action organization, in conjunction with presenting sponsor, TV Guide, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc), announced today that it will introduce two online categories for the upcoming Positively Outstanding Programming (POP) Awards: "POP Network of the Year" and "POP Celebrity of the Year."

The "POP Network of the Year" category invites cable industry professionals to access www.tvguideportfolio.com/tvgas/pop_entry.asp and cast their vote from January 24 through February 4 for the cable network that has most effectively and innovatively promoted HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention through its original programming.

The "POP Celebrity of the Year" category invites viewers to vote for the celebrity that has had the strongest impact on HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention through his or her appearance in and support of original cable network programming in 2001. Viewers can visit www.tvguide.com between January 24 and February 4 to select their favorite for "POP Celebrity of the Year"

"TV Guide is proud to host two separate online award categories: 'POP Celebrity of the Year' on tvguide.com and 'POP Network of the Year' on tvguideportfolio.com. While both polls will run independent of each other, they will be broadcast simultaneously on each respective web site. The first annual POP Awards reception will be held February 6, 2002 at The Supper Club in New York City and will honor exceptional HIV/AIDS-related original cable network programming. In addition to the new online categories, nominations have been accepted in the following categories from cable networks including A&E, BET, CNN, Discovery, E!, MTV, and Oxygen and will be judged for content accuracy, message clarity and program quality:

¨ "Outstanding News Coverage"
¨ "Outstanding Documentary"
¨ "Outstanding Newsmagazine Series Episode or Special"

¨ "Outstanding Special Programming"
