CABLE POSITIVE EXPANDS EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS THROUGH ‘IS TODAY THE DAY YOU GET HIV?’ RESOURCE GUIDE

NEW YORK, NY - January 28, 2004
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s national non-profit AIDS action organization, released its latest effort to raise HIV and AIDS awareness through education with their ‘Is Today The Day You Get HIV?’ resource guide today. The guide is part of Cable Positive’s current integrated public service campaign of the same title, which was launched on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2003 and is currently running in more than 100 markets across the country. The resource guide is an extension of the campaign that provides information on prevention and testing and was made possible through grants from The Joel A. Berger Memorial Fund and The John D. Evans Foundation.

“This HIV/AIDS resource booklet is an important part of the integrated consumer AIDS education campaign,” said Steve Villano, President/CEO, Cable Positive. “Cable Positive believes everyone needs to find accurate HIV/AIDS information everywhere they turn -- on TV, on the Internet, via telephone and in print.”

In response to the growing rates of HIV transmission among young people, Cable Positive created IS TODAY THE DAY YOU GET HIV? public service campaign. Compelling television and print ads depict young people in carefree moments of life then infuse the unexpected with the hard-hitting tag: IS TODAY THE DAY YOU GET HIV? Television and print ads drive the audience to the campaign web site and/or toll free number (800.909.2DAY). Consumers that visit the web site will find an extension of the campaign that educates and empowers the audience. Visitors can learn about safer sex, get facts on testing, and even read real stories from young people on how they personally deal with HIV/AIDS. When a consumer calls 800.909.2DAY they will be connected with a live operator at the CDC for answers to questions about HIV/AIDS.
