NEW YORK, NY - October 11, 2004
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s AIDS action organization, will support the 2nd Annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. October 15, 2004. The campaign is organized by the Latino Commission on AIDS to promote a national day of awareness and prevention against HIV/AIDS in the Latino community.
Cable Positive has produced and distributed a reel of four Spanish language public service announcements (PSAs), which our Hispanic cable network affiliations can air to establish a new level of HIV/AIDS awareness among Latinos in cable households across the country.
“Latinos are at high-risk for HIV/AIDS, second only to African-Americans in the United States,” noted Cable Positive President & CEO, Steve Villano. “By mobilizing networks to donate air time, Cable Positive provides a significant platform to spread the word of this year’s theme, ABRE LOS OJOS: EL VIH NO TIENE FRONTERAS – OPEN YOUR EYES; AIDS HAS NO BORDERS to Latinos regardless of country of origin with awareness and prevention information,” said Villano.
National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, October 15th, is sponsored by Viacom, Verizon, American Airlines, Abbott Laboratories, and The Hispanic Federation. It marks the last day of Hispanic Heritage month. For more information, visit www.latinoaids.org.
