TICKETS ON SALE FOR “POSITIVELY CABLE BOOK X: BOBO BROADBAND AND THE TCHAMBER OF TCHOTCHKES”

November 11 Denver Musical Fundraiser Expected to Sell Out Quickly

DENVER, CO - October 19, 2004
Cable industry professionals searching for a few laughs in the midst of budget season are expected to fill the Cable Center auditorium in Denver for the November 11 performance of “Positively Cable Book X: Bobo Broadband and the Tchamber of Tchotchkes.” Tickets are now on sale for the tenth annual musical satire, produced by the Denver chapter of Cable Positive and presented by Scripps Networks. The event benefits Cable Positive, the national non-profit organization that galvanizes the cable industry’s resources, access and influence in the fight against HIV/AIDS; Rainbow House, which provides care for Denver children whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS; and Mi Casa FENIX Project, which educates Denver-area youth to avoid negative risk behaviors and to improve their outlook for the future.

Ticket sales information and order forms were recently distributed via e-mail. Those who did not receive the promotional e-mail can purchase tickets through www.positivelycable.org or by calling Event Co-Chair Debbie Barackman at 303-712-3365. Tickets are $75 for gallery seating and $125 for VIP seating, with discounts for blocks of ten tickets. The ticket price includes a pre-performance reception sponsored by Eagle Direct, the “Bobo Broadband” theatrical performance, and an after-party with cast and crew. Event attendees will also have the opportunity to bid in a silent auction.

The popular “Positively Cable” performance has sold out quickly for years, and this year’s edition is expected to continue the trend. “The show has become an annual ‘must-see’ tradition for the Denver cable community,” said Event Co-Chair Zelda Martens. “Considering the tremendous response we’ve had to our sponsorship and silent-auction appeals this year, we know there will be a strong demand for tickets, as well.”

“Bobo Broadband and the Tchamber of Tchotchkes”,” presented by Scripps Networks will skewer cable industry shenanigans in a fantasy script inspired by “Lord of the Rings” and Harry Potter. Performed by the talented professionals of Rave Reviews, the lead players are backed up by a chorus line of 15 high-profile industry professionals, including Time Warner’s Tom Feige, Adelphia’s Ellen Filipiak, Comcast’s Scott Binder and Charlie Kennamer, Starz Encore’s Debbie Egner, ESPN’s Leveto Squalls, and industry journalists Leslie Ellis and K.C. Neel.

Among the song parodies are

  • “Indecency” (to the tune of “Heartbreak Hotel”)
  • “Fill Up My Server” (“Eye of the Tiger”)
  • “Call Centers” (“Goldfinger”)
  • “Circling the Drain” (“Singin’ in the Rain”)
  • “VOIP” (YMCA)

Casting jaundiced eyes on the preceding year, co-writers Erica Stull of Adelphia and Paul Braun of Time Warner Cable tackle corporate crooks, HDTV, DBS competitors, and industry consolidation, among other topics. “In ten years, we’ve never had a shortage of material,” Stull said. “In cable, reality is far more entertaining than anything we could make up.”
