CABLE POSITIVE AWARDS $68,800 FOR LOCAL HIV/AIDS AWARENESS, EDUCATION, AND PREVENTION EFFORTS THROUGH TONY COX COMMUNITY FUND

14 AIDS Service and Community Based Organizations Receive Grants to Partner With Local Cable Systems in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

NEW YORK, NY - October 25, 2004
Cable Positive, the cable industry’s AIDS action organization, awarded grants totaling $68,800 to 14 AIDS service and community based organization joining forces with their local cable systems to fight HIV/AIDS through community partnerships via the Tony Cox Community Fund.  The fund is dedicated to providing grants for qualified non-profit organizations to partner with their local cable systems in the aim of HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and prevention.  The grantees’ projects range from production of HIV/AIDS public service announcements (PSAs) and other programming to promotional spots for AIDS awareness events

Care Resources (Pompano Beach, FL) and Comcast of Broward County

Diverse Communications (Chicago, IL) and Comcast

Heartland CARES, Inc. (Paducah, KY) and Comcast Spotlight

Lansing Area AIDS Network (LAAN) (Grand Rapids, MI) and Comcast Spotlight

Living Beyond Belief (New York, NY) and Time Warner Cable

Long Island Association for AIDS Care (LIAAC) (Woodbury, NY) and News 12/Rainbow Media

NorCal AIDS Challenge via Captial City AIDS Fund Inc. (Sacramento, CA) and Comcast Cable

Regional Education and Advocacy Coalition on HIV/AIDS (REACH) (Town & Country, MO) and Charter Communications

Triad Health Project (Greensboro, NC) and Time Warner Cable

Grantees were chosen from a pool of applicants submitted to the Cable Positive Tony Cox Steering Committee, a group of cable industry professionals.

The fund is named in memory of former chairman and CEO of Showtime Networks, Inc. and a founding honorary chair of Cable Positive, Winston "Tony" Cox.  Grants are awarded for the creation of local AIDS-related programming, PSAs, and outreach efforts in two grant cycles per year.  Since its inception in 1996, the Tony Cox Fund has committed close to $1 million to more than 200 AIDS service organizations in the United States.
