DENVER, CO - October 22, 2001
2001 "Positively Cable Aught One: The Technical Trials of Our
Sweet Cablene," the seventh annual musical spoof of the telecommunications
industry presented by the Denver chapter of Cable Positive, raised
more than $107,000 in support of local and national AIDS initiatives.
Held at the Denver's Comedy Works Night Club, the show was sold
out for the third consecutive year.
Funds raised by the show will benefit Cable Positive's national
prevention and awareness efforts, and Denver's Volunteers of America
Rainbow House's construction of a new infant facility for children
who are HIV positive.
The show featured the professional actors of Rave Reviews singing
parodies of turn-of-the-century-songs. The Colorado Cable All-Stars
- executives of cable operators, programmers and suppliers - who
played bit parts and were chorus members, supported them.
The All-Stars were: Paul Braun, Time Warner Cable; Alex D'Addio,
Event Networks, Inc.; Ronda Dorchester, Sadler & Dorchester;
Bridget Farley, USA Networks; Jim Honiotes, International Channel;
Ziba Kaboli, Court TV; Rebecca Lim, Chosun Consulting Group; Steve
Raymond, ESPN; Neal Sullivan, Sullivan Direct Marketing; Rod Veatch,
iN DEMAND; and Sharan Wilson, Sharan Wilson Resources.
Paul Braun and cable veteran Erica Stull, who poked fun at TIVO,
VOD, Interactivity, AT&T's travails and more, wrote script and
lyrics. Barbershop quartet "24 Karat Ring" served as the
opening act, introducing the show with "Sweet Cablene,"
sung to the tune of "Sweet Adeline."
Event Chair Deborah Barackman said, "in these days of budget
cuts, it's a real tribute to our industry that this year's event
raised 45% more than last year. People know this is the annual "you
had to be there" event - a great chance to get together, have
fun, and support a wonderful organization. The Denver Chapter of
Cable Positive is grateful to all our contributors."
AT&T Broadband's Dan Somers and Glenn Jones of JonesKnowledge.com
acted as Honorary Event Chairs.
Major sponsors included: Presenting sponsor - AT&T Broadband;
