The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honored Cable Positive, the cable
industry's AIDS action organization with the prestigious TV Cares "Ribbon of
Hope Award" last week, for the organizations highly effective "Join the Fight"
PSA campaign. The ceremony, held at the Academy's Leonard Goldenson Theatre
in Hollywood, honored those media companies, programs, producers and individuals
whose personal and professional commitment continues to keep HIV/AIDS awareness
in the forefront. Cable Positive received the award, along with the Sesame
Workshop, Everwood, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
"We are extraordinarily proud to be recognized by the Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences for our work in HIV/AIDS education, awareness and
prevention through our "Join the Fight" campaign," said Steve Villano,
Cable Positive President/CEO. "This special recognition validates
all of the hard work and dedication of the cable TV industry to keep
HIV/AIDS front and center before the public."
Cable Positive launched it's "Join the Fight" campaign for World AIDS
Day 2004, consisting of public service announcement spots that took
a positive and proactive stance in the fight against HIV and AIDS, promoting
ideas and action to get involved. The 30-second spots were directed
by Joel Shumacher, produced by Kismet Films, and featured celebrity
activists including Nathan Lane, Jamie Lynn DiScala, Chris Meloni, Jeffrey
Wright and Jennifer Esposito. Since airing on cable television
Cable Positive's educational website has received more than 2 million
hits in direct response to the PSA campaign.
Accepting the award on behalf of Cable Positive were President and
CEO Steve Villano, VP of Communications, Marketing & Special Projects,
Thomas Dima and PSA Producer Greg Pace. This is the 2nd Ribbon
of Hope award Cable Positive has received, being honored in 2001 for
the production and distribution of public service announcements in support
of National HIV Testing Day and World Aids Day. The "Join the
Fight" PSA's also received a PROMAX Award earlier this year.
