COX COMMUNICATIONS AND JIM ROBBINS TO RECEIVE CABLE POSITIVE’S 2006 JOEL A. BERGER MEMORIAL AWARD

Fundraising Dinner to be Held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in NYC

NEW YORK, NY - November 2, 2005
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s AIDS action organization, will honor Cox Communications and its President and CEO James O. Robbins with the organization’s highest honor, the Joel A. Berger Memorial Award, for outstanding contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS.  The organization’s annual benefit dinner -- which has become a must-attend industry event – will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 and headlined “Positively Community,” honoring Cox and Robbins for the company’s support of Cable Positive and specifically its work at the community level.

“Jim Robbins represents the kind of progressive, socially responsible leader who motivates others by his strong example, and is in turn moved to action by the work of others,” says Steve Villano, President & CEO, Cable Positive.  “The efforts of Jim and his team at Cox are having a profound and continuing impact in the Atlanta community, and in communities across the country where Cox cable systems have formed working partnerships with local AIDS service organizations.“

In 2003, a handful of Cox employees working in Atlanta approached Robbins about providing his support in forming an Atlanta Chapter of Cable Positive.  Without hesitation, Robbins provided the group with financial and professional support to begin the chapter that is now a major presence in the Atlanta community working with its local partner AID Atlanta.  AID Atlanta is the Southeast’s largest AIDS service organization sponsoring education and awareness programs to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing comprehensive support and services for people living with HIVAIDS.  Cox cable systems across the country have been a leader in supporting Cable Positive’s national HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns, and have worked closely with Cable Positive’s Tony Cox Community Fund, a program that encourages partnerships between cable systems and community-based AIDS service organizations to fight HIV/AIDS locally through the power of cable television.

Robbins will join a list of distinguished cable and telecommunications leaders including: Carole Black (2005); Showtime’s Matt Blank (2004); BET’s Robert L. Johnson and Debra Lee (2003), Reed Business Information’s Bill McGorry (2002), Cablevision’s James L. Dolan (2001), Marc B. Nathanson (2000), ABC Cable Networks’ Anne Sweeney (1999), YES Network’s Leo Hindery, Jr. (1998), Dick Aurelio (1997), Winston H. “Tony’ Cox (1996 – posthumously) and Time Warner’s Jeffrey Bewkes and Michael Fuchs (1995).  The award is named for Joel A. Berger, a Cable Positive Honorary Chair and the group publisher of Multichannel News, who died of complications due to AIDS in April 1995.

Tables and other sponsorships are now available by contacting Dana Levitt at 212.459.1547 or via email at dana@cablepositive.org.
