CABLE POSITIVE UNITES CABLE TELEVISION IN THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS FOR WORLD AIDS DAY (DECEMBER 1)

MTV, BET, Lifetime Television, Comedy Central, Court TV, Bravo and More Join Together for a Nationwide "Roadblock"

NEW YORK, NY - November 28, 2001
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry's national non-profit AIDS action organization, will unite cable television in the fight against AIDS at 7:59 p.m. ET on Saturday, December 1, World AIDS Day, when networks and systems across America will air an HIV/AIDS public service announcement (PSA) in a nationwide "roadblock." This effort will reach more than 70 million cable television households with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness.

Cable Positive has enlisted the support of such networks as MTV, BET, Lifetime Television, Comedy Central, Court TV, CNN, Bravo, Game Show Network, A&E and many others. Cable system partners Adelphia, AT&T Broadband, Cablevision Systems Corporation, Charter, Comcast, Cox Communications, Insight Communications and Time Warner will reinforce Cable Positive's HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness message to the following cities hit hard by the disease: New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC; Chicago, IL; Miami, FL; Atlanta, GA; Detroit, MI; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, MA; Phoenix, AZ; and Denver, CO.

"Our reach is nationwide," said Steve Villano, Executive Director, Cable Positive. "Cable television is in a unique position to reach millions of Americans who watch cable programming daily. Cable Positive works with networks and systems to ensure viewers obtain the information needed to help them make educated decisions about preventing the transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS."

For World AIDS Day 2001, Cable Positive released PSAs featuring Miss Universe 2001 Denise Quinones August, actor/director Billy Bob Thornton, MTV Real Worlder/cartoonist Judd Winick, and some animated spots targeting youth. Every PSA Cable Positive distributes to networks and systems concludes with the telephone number for the CDC's National AIDS Hotline (1.800.342.AIDS) and the CDC's website, www.hivtest.org, where viewers can obtain more information about HIV/AIDS.

Cable Positive is a national non-profit organization that was founded in February 1992 by three concerned cable executives with the mission of organizing cable's resources in the fight against AIDS. Cable Positive is dedicated to unifying the talents, resources, access, and influence of the communications industry to raise AIDS awareness; to fund AIDS education, research and care; and to promote a more compassionate climate for people whose lives have been affected by HIV and AIDS. Cable Positive has grown to include supporters from every major cable network, MSO, system, hardware manufacturer, trade association, media publication, and affiliated industry vendors and suppliers.
