Proceeds from "Positively Cable, Book X: Bobo Broadband and the Tchamber of Tchotchkes" benefit Cable Positive, the Rainbow House and Mi Casa FENIX Project
DENVER, CO - November 30, 2004
How do you top a great evening of cable industry satire performed by a talented cast, complete with a special guest appearace by Adelphia President and COO Ron Cooper?
You raise more than $144,000 -- that's how!
The Denver Chapter of Cable Positive, a non-profit organization with the mission of organizing cable's resources in the fight against AIDS, presented Positively Cable Book X: Bobo Broadband and the Tchamber of Tchotchkes Nov. 11 at The Cable Center. The sold-out show, written and performed by industry volunteers (and the gifted wizards of Rave Reviews) lampooned the cable industry in a plot influenced by both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The evening also featured a silent auction of items donated by supporting companies.
In total, $144,200 was raised, a new Denver Chapter record.
Portraying corporate crooks in this year's show were Charlie Kennamer/Comcast, Neil David Seibel/Rave Reviews, Alex D'Addio/D'Addio Productions and Kim Smith/Eagle Direct.
A number of leading cable and telecommunications companies, including presenting sponsor Scripps Networks, supported this year's show, which was the 10th annual. Honorary chairs for this year's event were Ron Cooper, COO and president of Adelphia Communications, and Carl Vogel, CEO of Charter Communications.
Immediately following the show, Denver Chapter Volunteers Debbie Barackman, regional vice president for Affiliate Relations and National Accounts, iN DEMAND; Zelda Martens, director of Marketing, Adelphia Communications; and Erica Stull, director of External Communications, Adelphia Communications; received the 2004 Brad Wojcoski Memorial Award recipient for outstanding contribution to the fight against HIV and AIDS by a cable industry employee in their local community. As part of the honor, Cable Positive will grant $2,500 to an AIDS service organization of the group's choice in their names.
The show's finale included Scott Binder/Comcast, Alex D'Addio/D'Addio Productions, Kim Smith/Eagle Direct, Charlie Kennamer/Comcast and Maro Casparian/Charter. Standing are Paul Braun and Tom Feige, both of Time Warner.
In addition to supporting the national Cable Positive organization, two local organizations received funding from the proceeds of this year's show -- the Rainbow House and Mi Casa's FENIX Project.
The Volunteers of America Rainbow House, located in Denver, provides services designed to meet the unique needs of families living with HIV/AIDS, specifically those with young children. The Mi Casa FENIX Project strives to educate Denver-area youth to avoid negative risk behaviors and to improve their outlook for the future.
"We are tremendously proud and appreciative of the Denver chapter's success," said Cable Positive Executive Director Steve Villano. "Their many dedicated volunteers are making a tremendous contribution to the Denver community, and their unique event is an inspiration to other local Cable Positive chapters."
