CABLE POSITIVE CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR 2002 POSITIVELY OUTSTANDING PROGRAMMING (POP) AWARDS

Entry Deadline is January 10, 2003

NEW YORK, NY - December 13, 2002
Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry's AIDS action organization, is pleased to announce its call for entries for the 2002 Positively Outstanding Programming (POP) Awards honoring exceptional HIV/AIDS-related original cable network programming.

"Television is a powerful medium that can be used to educate Americans about AIDS," said Steve Villano, Cable Positive President & CEO. "Cable Positive POP Awards recognize cable television for its work on behalf of HIV/AIDS awareness and education."

Cable Positive will accept entries for the following categories:

  • Outstanding News Coverage
  • Outstanding Documentary
  • Outstanding Original Film/Movie
  • Outstanding Newsmagazine Program
  • Outstanding Original Series
  • Outstanding Special Programming

Eligible entries must be an originally produced program that has aired at least once on a national cable network in the United States from January 1 to December 2002. Applications are available online at http://www.cablepositive.org/programs-pop.html.

Programming nominations were selected based on the following criteria; educates the audience about the HIV/AIDS epidemic, raises HIV/AIDS awareness and/or promotes prevention, clearly presents HIV/AIDS message to the viewing audience and maintains high production values that help bring the HIV/AIDS content to life.

Past Cable Positive POP Awards winners include: MTV's Staying Alive 3, BET's The Naked Truth, Showtime's Queer As Folk, and CNN's AIDS: A Dream Deferred.
