CABLE POSITIVE UNVEILS NEW PROGRAMS AND PARTNERSHIPS AT WORLD AIDS
DAY BREAKFAST, FEATURING GUEST SPEAKER ROSIE PEREZ
NEW YORK, NY — December 4, 2006
New York, NY—Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunication
industry’s AIDS action organization, held their World AIDS Day
breakfast this past Friday, December 1 at the Bloomberg offices. The
program consisted of many different elements involving Cable Positive's
programs and services including, the Brad W. Wojcoski Award presented
to Maura Kehoe, of PK Network the viewing of our new 25 Stories
for 25 Years PSA's done in partnership with NY1 News,
a preview of some of our 2006-2007 PSA Campaign spots
produced by Kismet Films, that also included a roadblock
for airing that evening at 7:59pm ET/4:59pm PT; and brief introductions
from our current partnerships with NetAid and Hope's
Voice.
We were pleased to have representatives from the different organizations
we partnered with on hand to speak about the different projects, including
Pat Obermeier from NY1 News who unveiled the brand new PSA’s for our “25 Stories for
25 Years” project. The campaign’s PSAs feature some of our
very own board members as well as local NYC residents and community leaders. NY1
News has also included an easy-to-follow toolkit for local cable companies and
broadcast affiliates to follow and build their own PSAs.
Kim Hamilton, President of NetAid, shared a few words about the current
competition we are running together for NYC high school students. We are encouraging
students to submit their own homemade PSAs about HIV/AIDS awareness which will
then be uploaded to Youtube and judged by a panel of public health, media, culture
and education experts. The winning team will have their PSA aired on both
NetAid and Cable Positive websites, and possibly on cable television!
Last but certainly not least, we had special guest and director of our
Spanish Language Campaign,
Rosie Perez present to speak
about her involvement with Cable Positive as well as with
Living
Beyond Belief and the
HIV Forum, two organizations
that received funding from Cable Positive to help produce their own PSA's,
featuring Rosie. “I’m just doing my drop in the
bucket, and it counts and I know it counts and I feel good about that,” says
Perez, “And if everybody could just think like that-just give the
fight against AIDS a drop, then the bucket will become full, and it will
make a difference.”
