NEW YORK, NY -
March 14, 2005
In partnership with Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry's AIDS action organization, TV Guide and its signature on-air talent, Joan Rivers and Melissa Rivers, will launch TV Guide’s Positively Red Carpet Charity Auction Sunday, April 3 at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) 2005 National Show in San Francisco, CA. The auction will offer TV fans from inside and outside the industry the opportunity to bid for access to some of cable’s most-talked about events in entertainment and sports, such as The Prime Time Emmy Awards and The Kentucky Derby. “Experience Packages” donated by cable networks will be available to bid upon from Sunday, April 3 through Friday, May 13 at www.cablepositive.cmarket.com. The money raised through this auction will benefit Cable Positive's HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention efforts.
“This creative and fun auction presented by TV Guide is a perfect illustration of how the cable industry can use its extraordinary resources in the fight against HIV/AIDS,” said Cable Positive President + CEO Steve Villano. “In addition to galvanizing participation by industry contacts, TV Guide is donating its top talent and its resources in advancing the important work of Cable Positive. ’Positively Red Carpet’ is a model of corporate responsibility, using the best of what our industry has to offer to continue the fight against HIV and AIDS.”
“We’re looking forward to bringing the cable industry together in this effort to make a meaningful difference,” said Rich Battista, Gemstar-TV Guide International CEO. “This auction will not only underscore the industry’s continued dedication to the fight against HIV and AIDS, but also highlight the diversity, creativity and strength of cable programming.”
Each “Experience Package” will offer the winning bidder an entire experience including, in many cases, lodging, airfare, and the chance to meet and mingle with celebrities connected to a particular cable show or event.
