NEW YORK, NY - April 12, 2004
Cable “Spring Break” Week, a joint venture between Cable Positive, Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) and Horowitz Associates turned into a successful week for the cable industry offering a convenient, cost-effective way to bring the industry together. Held at New York’s Marriott Marquis, New York City, the week heralded a record-breaking attendance of executives from around the cable industry with each organization reporting at least a 30% increase in attendance than at their individual events in 2003.
The week kicked off with the 4th Annual State of Cable and Broadband Forum, hosted by Horowitz Associates on the morning of Tuesday, March 30, with keynote speaker, Gilbert Dávila, Vice President of Multicultural Marketing for Walt Disney Co. discussing the impact of America's changing demographic makeup on corporate America.
The morning Forum was followed by WICT’s “Wonder Women” luncheon, which is sponsored by Reed Business Information and is a celebration of outstanding women in the cable industry. The 6th annual luncheon, honored 13 powerful women, including, Betsy Frank of MTV Networks, Italia Commisso Weinand of Mediacom Communications, Kristin Dolan of Cablevision Systems and Ellen East of Cox Communications. Attendance at WICT’s luncheon was nearly double last year’s, with a record number of 1100 participants.
New attendance records were also set at Cable Positive’s Annual Benefit Dinner that evening, where some 1,050 industry leaders showed their strong support for Cable Positive and for 2004 Joel A. Berger award recipient, Matt Blank, Chairman & CEO of Showtime Networks, Inc. The Cable Positive Benefit raised $1.25 million for the industry’s AIDS Action Organization.
WICT’s 3-day Leadership Forum held on March 31 to April 2 rounded out the successful list of weeklong events with attendance at this year’s WICT Leadership Forum some 50% higher than last year’s.
The success of Cable’s “Spring Break” Week 2004 already has WICT, Horowitz Associates, Reed Business Information and Cable Positive planning for next year’s weeklong event to be held early to mid March 2005.
