ATLANTA CABLE COMMUNITY ‘STRIKES’ UP CLOSE TO $10,000 FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST AIDS AT FIRST ANNUAL GUTTER BALL: STRIKE FOR A CAUSE

Money raised benefits Cable Positive and AID Atlanta

NEW YORK, NY / ATLANTA, GA - May 19, 2004
On Thursday, May 13, cable industry professionals assembled for the Atlanta Chapter of Cable Positive’s first annual Gutter Ball: Strike for a Cause fundraising event to benefit Cable Positive, the cable and telecommunications industry’s national non-profit AIDS action organization, and AID Atlanta, the Southeast’s largest AIDS service organization (ASO). The charity-bowling event, held at AMF Chamblee Lanes in Chamblee, Ga., netted nearly $10,000 for the fight against AIDS, thanks to generous sponsors The Sundance Channel and Turner.

“The Gutter Ball was a tremendous success for us,” said Cable Positive Atlanta Chapter chair Bobby Amirshahi, Cox Communications’ director of media relations. “This event brought together employees of all ranks from Comcast, Turner, Cox, MTV Networks and other local firms who not only bowled their hearts out, but saw an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for one of the deadliest illnesses to strike our communities.”

Participants for the event included cable industry professionals from: Comcast, Cox Communications, MTV Networks, Scientific-Atlanta, Sundance Channel, Turner and The Weather Channel.

Half of the money raised will be donated to AID Atlanta to sponsor education programs to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and provides comprehensive support and services for people living with HIV/AIDS in Atlanta.
