NYC Community Organization to Benefit from
Chapter Fundraising
NEW YORK, NY - May 7, 2003
The New York Chapter of Cable Positive,
the cable and telecommunications industry’s national non-profit
AIDS action organization, announced today that AIDS Service Center,
a multi-service community organization in New York City that helps
individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS, will be the beneficiary
of a portion of the chapter’s fundraising efforts.
Cable Positive’s New York chapter will stage three fundraising
events in the next 12 months to raise AIDS awareness, and AIDS
Service Center will share in the proceeds.
The chapter, which consists of volunteer members from the cable
and telecommunications industry and associated businesses, will
also work closely with the AIDS Service Center to support its
continuing efforts to provide the best possible quality of life
and health for those in their care. One of five local Cable Positive
chapters across the U.S., the New York group is now entering its
second year of activity.
Founded in 1990, AIDS Service Center NYC (ASC) fulfills its mission
of “helping many, one by one” by providing its clients
with the care, resources, and knowledge needed to lead healthier,
longer lives in the face of HIV/AIDS. Through its acclaimed peer
education program and its range of innovative services, ASC provides
individualized, meaningful assistance to New York City’s
most vulnerable residents.
“It’s incredibly gratifying for ASC that a group
like Cable Positive has recognized our work, but it’s even
more important to our clients,” said Sharen Duke, ASC’s
executive director. “Cable Positive’s generosity will
make a real difference in the lives of the men, women, and children
we serve.”
In addition to raising funds for the AIDS Service Center, the
NY Chapter of Cable Positive will also be providing volunteers
to participate in ASC’s many programs and services.
