NEW YORK, NY - June 22, 2004
Cable Positive, the cable industry's national non-profit HIV/AIDS action organization, honored cable television for positively outstanding HIV/AIDS-related programming tonight at their 3rd Annual POP Awards. The ceremony was held at New York's Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Hotel. Graham Norton of Comedy Central's The Graham Norton Effect, Two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Heather Tom of One Life to Live, Brini Maxwell of Style's The Brini Maxwell Show, Miss Universe 2004 Jennifer Hawkins among others handed out awards honoring cable television's commitment through outstanding programming in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
HBO took a Special Jury Award for 'Angels in America,' a television event that truly penetrated the public consciousness and created a lasting dialogue on HIV/AIDS. The following cable networks and programs were recognized for creating television that carries educational value and promotes awareness/prevention in the fight against HIV/AIDS:
