Charter’s Sue Hamilton and Adelphia’s Judy Meyka Serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of 9th Annual Musical Fundraiser on November 13 in Denver
DENVER, CO - August 12, 2003
Proving that even sand in the face can’t keep the Colorado cable community down, “Positively Cable,” the annual musical parody fundraiser, will return for the ninth consecutive year on Thursday, November 13 at The Cable Center on the University of Denver campus, this time in flip-flops and shades. The 2003 edition presented by Scripps Networks, “Beach Blanket Broadband,” benefits Cable Positive, the national non-profit organization that galvanizes the cable industry’s resources, access and influence in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and Rainbow House, which provides care for Denver children whose lives are affected by the AIDS virus.
Serving as honorary co-chairs of this year’s show are Sue Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Programming with Charter Communications, and Judy Meyka, Senior Vice President of Programming with Adelphia Communications. Funds raised by the event will benefit Cable Positive’s national prevention and awareness efforts, and Rainbow House’s new infant care facility for children who are HIV positive. Businesses or individuals interested in learning more about sponsorship of “Positively Cable 2003” should contact event chair Zelda Martens at 303-693-8706 or Debbie Barackman at 303-712-3365.
“Positively Cable 2003: Beach Blanket Broadband, promises to skewer cable industry “has-beens, returnees, and wannabes” in a sun-drenched, SPF-coated salute to 60s beach movies. The show will lampoon the cable, satellite, Internet, and telecommunications industries in story and songs inspired by the Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, and other sandy favorites.
Last year’s event, “Cable Gets the Royal Flush,” loosely based on the wise-guy escapades of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and company, raised more than $70,000 in support of Cable Positive and Rainbow House. This year’s show, written by cable industry veterans Paul Braun of Time Warner Cable and Jones Intercable alumna Erica Stull, aims to exceed last year’s take. Information on ticket sales will be available in several weeks.
Leading this year’s event committee are industry consultant Zelda Martens and Debbie Barackman of iN DEMAND, heading up a horde of volunteers from the Denver Chapter of Cable Positive.
