15 Colorado Cable All Stars Headline the 7th Annual Musical
Fundraiser on October 18, 2001, in Denver
DENVER, CO - August 30, 2001
The work may be hard, but the laughter is cheap in the cable industry.
That's reflected in prices for tickets that are now on sale for
this year's "Positively Cable Aught One: The Technical Trials
of Our Sweet Cablene," the 7th annual musical parody fundraiser,
scheduled for Thursday evening, October 18, at Comedy Works in Denver.
VIP Reserved Seating tickets are $100 each, and Gallery Seating
tickets are $50 each.
Discounts are available in each category for blocks of 10 tickets.
Ten tickets for VIP Reserved Seating can be purchased for $950,
and 10 tickets for Gallery Seating can be purchased for $450.
Prices include a pre-show cocktail reception featuring food and
drink by Palomino Rotisseria and a special performance by 24 Karat
Ring Barbershop Quartet; tickets for the satirical performance;
and entry to the after-show "cast party." Businesses or
individuals interested in purchasing tickets should contact Debbie
Barackman of iNDEMAND at 303.712.3365, or Zelda
Martens of Sullivan Direct Marketing at. 303.632.7734
Glenn Jones, one of this year's honorary co-chairs, said , "'Funny'
cannot begin to describe these shows. 'Hilarious' cannot begin to
describe these shows. 'Falling down laughing' is more like it. This
is one of the most entertaining and worthwhile evenings the cable
industry has ever come up with -- a great excuse to put down the
remote."
"All of the Rocky Mountain telecommunications community should
come out for a laugh and help raise money for this important cause,"
added Dan Somers, president and chief executive officer of AT&T
Broadband and the other honorary co-chair of the event. "It
should be a great way to relax and forget about who is buying whom
- at least for a couple of hours. I know I could use a few laughs
about now. I imagine hundreds of others could, too."
The show writers, Paul Braun of Time Warner Cable and Erica Stull,
formerly of Jones Intercable, bring years of comedic expertise and
are advised - for better or worse - by other industry stalwarts
about who and what should be parodied. Attendees will view performances
of such classic songs as:
- Cable's Whizbang Big-time Band (set to "Alexander's Ragtime
Band")
- Costs Too Much for a Ball Game (set to "Take Me Out to
the Ball Game")
- Interactivity (set to "Ta-Ra-Ra Boom-De-Ay!)
- @ Home's the Culprit to Blame (set to "Home, Home on the
Range")
- We'll Get Rich with our New VOD (set to "In the Shade of
the Old Apple Tree")
- "T" for Who? (set to "Tea for Two"), and
- Given the Future's Broadband (set to "Give My Regards to
Broadway")
Positively Cable Aught One is peppered with an all-star cast of
cable and telecommunications professionals, including Matthew Abernathy,
AT&T Broadband; Paul Braun, Time Warner Cable; Maro Casparian,
Looking Glass; Alex D'Addio, Event Networks, Inc.; Ronda Dorchester,
Sadler & Dorchester; Bridget Farley, USA Networks; Jim Honiotes,
International Channel; Ziba Kaboli, Court TV; consultant Rebecca
Lim; Paul Maxwell, BigPipe and CableFAX Daily; Steve Raymond, ESPN;
David Sears, Calypso Networks; Neal Sullivan, Sullivan Direct Marketing;
Rod Veatch, iNDEMAND, and Sharan Wilson, Sharan Wilson Resources.
While all in good fun, the event benefits two very serious organizations
-- Cable Positive, the national non-profit organization for the
cable industry's fight against HIV/AIDS, and Rainbow House, which
provides care for children whose lives are affected by the AIDS
virus in Denver. Funds raised by the show will benefit Cable Positive's
national prevention and awareness efforts, and Rainbow House's construction
of a new infant facility for children who are HIV positive.
"Positively Cable Aught One," presented by AT&T Broadband,
promises to skewer cable industry has-beens and wannabes in an interactive
melodrama for a new millennium. The show will lampoon the cable,
satellite, Internet and telecommunications industries in story and
songs inspired by great musical hits of the 1890's and early 1900's.
