NEW YORK, NY - September 22, 2000
Cable Positive will participate in the Cable and Telecommunications
Human Resource Association (CTHRA) 9th Annual Symposium at a breakfast
at the New York Hilton and Towers on Friday, September 22, sponsored
by Cahners Television Group. Cable Positive and The Actors' Fund,
which administers the Employee Assistance Program, will inform human
resource professionals on how Cable Positive's assistance resources
can help support cable industry employees.
Cable Positive Executive Director Steve Villano, Director of Human
Services for The Actors' Fund of America Barbara Davis and Cable
Positive Trainer Julia Ritchie will present to cable industry human
resources professionals a program outlining services available to
them and their employees through Cable Positive.
"The CTHRA forum provided an excellent opportunity to present our
employee initiatives to a vast audience of human resource professionals,"
said Villano. "Our ultimate goal is to reach every company, and
then every cable industry employee to know that these programs are
available to them, and Cahners' sponsorship of this important session
will help us along that path."
The Employee Assistance Program is a free, confidential program
that provides emergency and ongoing financial and social services
assistance to current and former industry employees and their immediate
family members/domestic partners who are living with HIV/AIDS. Grants
are awarded for essential living expenses including medical care,
utilities, and travel. To request confidential assistance, call
The Actors' Fund of America at (800) 221-7303.
AIDS in the Workplace seminars are 2-hour education seminars on
HIV/AIDS. Topics include transmission, prevention, testing, and
work-related issues such as confidentiality, discrimination, disclosure,
and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Over 2,000 seminars have
been given to cable and communications industry companies and are
designed to encourage participant interaction and utilize dynamic
learning tools including video, overheads, flipcharts, and handouts.
Cable Positive is a national non-profit organization that was
founded in February 1992 by three cable executives with the mission
of organizing cable's resources in the fight against AIDS. Cable
Positive is dedicated to unifying the talents, resources, access
and influence of the communications industry to raise AIDS awareness
to fund AIDS education, research and care; and to promote a more
compassionate climate for people whose lives have been affected
by HIV/AIDS. Cable Positive has grown to include supporters from
every major cable network, MSO system, hardware manufacturer, trade
association, media publication, and affiliated vendors and suppliers.
