DENVER, CO - November 3, 2000
Positively Cable 2000: Sgt Broadband's Magic Dot Com Land, the musical
spoof of the telecommunications industry, was a huge hit on Thursday
night. Held this year at the Denver's Comedy Works NightClub, the
show was sold out and the club was at standing room only.
The show featured the professional actors of Rave Reviews singing
parodies of 1960's songs from The Beatles, Beach Boys, The Supremes
and more. They were supported by the Colorado Cable All-Stars -
executives of cable operators, programmers and suppliers - who played
bit parts and were chorus members.
The All-Stars were: Matthew Abernathy, Chris Angle, Angie Barrick,
Paul Braun, Steve Collins, Rhonda Dorchester, Bridget Farley Rebecca
Lim, Jim Honiotes, Steve Raymond, David Sears, Rod Veatch, Ziba
Kaboli and Sharan Wilson.
Patrons heard Paul Braun's (of Time Warner Cable) hilarious send-up
that poked fun at email, cable's glory years, super severance, CableLabs,
and the fight between Time Warner and Disney. It also featured a
stirring farewell to Bill Daniels.
The hour-long show was warmed up by a special guest appearance
by the "stand-up emergency vet" Kevin Fitzgerald from Animal Planet.
Major sponsors included: Cahners Television Group, HSA, A&E, AT&T
Digital Phone, AT&T Broadband, Eclipse Marketing, Discovery Networks,
ICTV, Jones Knowledge.Com, Bloomberg TV, Sullivan Advertising, HOT
Network, iN DEMAND, Universal Studios, Scripps Networks and Rave
Reviews.
Event Chair Zelda Martens said "On behalf of the Denver Chapter
of Cable Positive, I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank
you to all of the sponsors, volunteers and those who contributed
to the silent auction for this year's Positively Cable 2000! For
those who attended the show, you know what a smashing success it
was. We raised over $73,000 this year. (Last year's total was $33,000).
The show was a sell out with over 300 people attending.
" The Denver Rainbow House (daycare center for children or their
parents, who are living with AIDS) will directly benefit from the
funds raised this year. In addition, a scholarship fund has been
set up in Martens' brother's name - Leonard T. Herrera- who died
earlier this year from AIDS.
Cable Positive is a national non-profit organization that was
