MTV Real World's Judd Winick Lends His Support
NEW YORK, NY - November 17, 2000
Cable Positive, the cable and communications industry's AIDS action
organization, released its latest reel of public service announcements
(PSAs) in support of World AIDS Day on Friday, December 1, 2000.
The reel boasts two new PSAs, one with former MTV Real Worlder,
that focus specifically on youth HIV prevention.
According to Clarice Astorga, Program Manager, Cable Positive,
PSA Reel #11 contains 23 different PSAs including national and generic
spots, with several bilingual versions in Spanish and English. The
national spots contain the National AIDS Hotline toll-free number
for HIV/AIDS information and are able to be telecast anywhere in
the country. Generic spots can be tagged with information for a
local AIDS service organization in your community to give viewers
the closest options for testing, counseling and education.
The PSA entitled Science Lesson features MTV The Real World San
Francisco cast member, cartoonist and author Judd Winick. The spot
deals with the mutating nature of the disease as a means to motivate
young viewers to use protection and get tested. Winick's compelling
delivery is enhanced with well-timed jump cuts and stylized cutaways
that include drawings by the artist to reinforce key points. Produced
by Chuck Jennes and directed by Peter Viola of Slate, Inc. (New
York, NY), Cable Positive has chosen this PSA to be the focus of
this year's World AIDS Day PSA Roadblock on Friday, December 1,
2000 at 8p.m. ET.
Don't Be Irresponsible is produced by NOOvision (Dallas, TX) by
producer Joseluis Partida. A young couple is speeding down the highway
without their seat belts. As things begin to heat up between the
couple, the male driver is paying less and less attention to the
road. The viewer is reminded through a graphic, "Don't' be irresponsible
- always use a condom." The safety correlation is evident - don't
drive recklessly and don't engage in sexual activity without protection.
