CABLE POSITIVE AND THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON DRUG ABUSE TEAM UP FOR NEW GRANT
Cable Positive is pleased to announce a partnership with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) for a new Tony Cox Community Fund (TCCF) Grant. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2007.
NIDA recently developed and produced a "Drugs + HIV: Learn the Link" PSA campaign, targeting teens and their parents to learn the link between non-intravenous drug abuse and HIV. Available in Spanish and English, the campaign also encourages parents to get involved and specifically speaks to the strong family-oriented culture of Hispanic communities.
Cable Positive’s Tony Cox Community Fund is issuing a Request For Proposals for organizations to locally co-brand the "Learn the Link" PSA campaign, which including print and web elements, and engage in community outreach by offering $3,000 to $7,000 grants to programs that meet the partnership's guidelines.
NIDA's mission is to bring the power of science to bear on the issues of drug abuse and addiction. Complementarily, Cable Positive uses the power of the cable industry to bear on the issue of HIV/AIDS. Under this partnership, the new TCCF fund marries the traditional goals of the TCCF with the NIDA's PSA campaign.
Approved proposals will not only effectively distribute the "Learn the Link" PSAs through their local cable systems, but will also incorporate a community outreach program to accentuate the message. TCCF will grant up to $7,000 for proposed projects, but grantees must access a local cable system to air the PSAs and organize local events to raise awareness locally.
As we learn more about HIV/AIDS and risky patterns of behavior, the better equipped we are to address the linkages effectively and powerfully. The partnership between Cable Positive and NIDA exemplifies the unions and cooperation that must take place to relevantly address the issues of the day.
