PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cable Positive uses the power of cable television to communicate important messages about HIV and AIDS through public service announcements (PSAs). Since 1992, Cable Positive has provided our cable network and systems partners with PSAs free of charge. Our PSAs have received millions of dollars of pro-bono airtime and support from our partners to ensure that cable television is a leader in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

On September 13, 2006, Cable Positive in partnership with Kismet Films began filming the 3rd series of their Award-Winning “Join The Fight” Public Service Announcement Campaign, enlisting the support of actors Liev Schreiber (Scream Series, The Omen) and Rosie Perez (White Men Can’t Jump, Do the Right Thing) as directors.  Over the course of 3 days various actors, actresses and public figures came in to shoot the spots and give a brief interview about their reasons for joining the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Celebrity activists participating in the English spots directed by Schreiber include Bernard Hopkins (World Light Heavyweight Champion Boxer), Naomi Watts (King Kong), Lorraine Bracco (Sopranos), Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), Tony Kushner (Writer-Munich), Bob Costas (host of sports show Costas Now), Judith Light (Law & Order: SVU), Calvin Klein (Fashion Designer),  B.D. Wong (Jurassic Park), Carson Kressley (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), and Famke Janssen (X-Men). The Spanish Language Campaign, under the direction of Perez includes Spanish actors Erick Elias (Polvorita), Judy Marte (Law & Order: Trial by Jury), Miss Universe 2007 Zuleyka Rivera, Lorena Rojas (Cuerpo del deseo, El), Julissa Bermudez (host of BET’s The Center), and Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show).

The year-long campaign focuses on the notion that it’s been 25 years since the identification of the disease, and there’s still no cure. In these spots, the celebrity activists were filmed in color against a white background.  Each of them are encouraging viewers to join them in the fight, and expressing why it is important to them personally.  The new spots will be launched in two phases, the Spanish Campaign premiering first, in time for National Latino AIDS Awareness Day on October 15 and the English Campaign premiering in time for World AIDS Day on December 1.

LATINO AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

For the second year in a row Cable Positive teamed up with the Latino Commission on AIDS to support the efforts surrounding National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) – October 15.  The new Spanish Language Campaign, under the direction of Perez includes Spanish actors Erick Elias (Polvorita), Judy Marte (Law & Order: Trial by Jury), Miss Universe 2007 Zuleyka Rivera, Lorena Rojas (Cuerpo del deseo, El), Julissa Bermudez (host of BET’s The Center), and Wilmer Valderrama (That 70’s Show). The year-long campaign focuses on the notion that it’s been 25 years since the identification of the disease, and there’s still no cure. In these spots, the celebrity activists were filmed in color against a white background.  Each of them are encouraging viewers to join them in the fight, and expressing why it is important to them personally.  The PSA’S also seek to eliminate the stigma and taboos of discussing HIV among Latinos.  The 2nd spot directly addresses the notion of safe sex and using a condom.
